{"id":131,"date":"2016-10-06T04:34:00","date_gmt":"2016-10-06T04:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/maximebernier.com\/?p=131"},"modified":"2025-05-16T04:37:15","modified_gmt":"2025-05-16T04:37:15","slug":"release-responsible-plan-for-income-tax-cuts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maximebernier.com\/fr\/2016\/10\/06\/release-responsible-plan-for-income-tax-cuts\/","title":{"rendered":"Release: Responsible Plan for Income Tax Cuts"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>OTTAWA \u2013&nbsp;<\/strong>Today, Maxime Bernier announced his plan to simplify Canada\u2019s personal taxation system as part of his campaign for Leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The current system is overly complicated.&nbsp; It\u2019s estimated that Canadians spend $7 billion each year to comply with our tax laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bernier\u2019s plan has four key components:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Raise the Basic Personal Exemption to $15,000<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Eliminate two tax brackets so that income from $15,001 to $100,000 is taxed at 15%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tax income over $100,001 at 25%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Eliminate boutique tax credits that serve no public policy purpose.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These measures would put a significant amount of money back into Canadians pockets.&nbsp; Whether they are working class or wealthy, the Government will not be picking winners and losers.&nbsp; The vast majority of Canadians would pay a single 15% rate, while 1.5 million more of the lowest income Canadians will be taken off the tax rolls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>KEY MAXIME BERNIER QUOTES:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen we combine federal and provincial rates, the top personal income tax rate in Canada now stands at 54%.&nbsp; That makes it the 6<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;highest amongst OECD industrialized countries\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe best tax system is simple.&nbsp; It\u2019s easy to understand.&nbsp; And it keeps administrative and compliance costs as low as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnother important benefit is that ALL taxpayers would pay less taxes, not just the middle class and the wealthy who would benefit from lower marginal taxes.
